  1. I chose Sail Fish Scuba in Key Largo for my open-water certification based on their advertised “transparent prices” and positive reviews—only to later learn the business was sold in December 2024 to new owners, Tarek Salem and his wife Michaela. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing as my decision to go with this diving company was based on old reviews.

Tarek may be an experienced diver but not a good instructor, he was unresponsive when contacted, did not honor scheduled dates, and provided minimal instruction. Despite being made aware that I was visiting in Florida for a limited time and was driving over 2 hours each way to get to their shop, I was given around an hour in a pool like setting which is not enough time for a beginner. I was not properly weighted, making it impossible to descend being that I was wearing 7mm suit in salt water; this is a basic check a professional instructor should be doing at the very beginning to make sure you can dive. I was charged $125 for this rushed session, and it felt designed to fail so that I could be pushed to pay for costly private lesson quoted at over $700, more than $200 above their listed price.

The lack of communication, transparency, and professionalism was frustrating. The teaching style was vague. The pricing and service were not as advertised, and I felt misled. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. The 5 stars old reviews of the previous owners should be taken down as it is misleading and does not reflect the current services. No where on the website is it mentioned that this business is under new ownership run by inexperienced people.
